San Antonio, Texas 6/28 & 6/29 - Dough Pizzeria and Magnolia Pancake Haus

So, my husband and I love to watch the food network.  We decided we really wanted to try some restaurants we had seen on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

On June 28th- which was a Friday we went to visit Dough Pizzeria Napoletana
http://www.doughpizzeria.com/  Like I said we had seen them on Triple D and couldn't wait to try it.

We got there at 6, which we thought would be early enough...but there was a line.  We opted to sit outside so we didn't have to wait.  It was a space in the shade, but we were both melting.  Normally, I would have said it wasn't worth it - but believe me when I say - worth every drop of sweat.

For our appetizer we had the a cheese appetizer.  I don't see the item we ordered on their menu online, but it consisted of three different types of their homemade cheese.
Burrata Cheese
House-made mozzarella filled with a mascarpone-ricotta-truffle oil filling and Rain Drop Farms heirloom tomatoes
SPIEDINI-
Oven-roasted house-made mozzarella wrapped in Prosciutto di Parma

and
Caprese Salad - house-made mozzarella with basil and tomatoes

We took a bite before taking the picture - we were so excited.

They were all delicious and worth every bite.

A basket of bread sticks were also accompanied with our appetizer.  They were warm and flavorful - with herbs and butter galore.

For our dinner we ordered the
ARUGULA & PROSCIUTTO Pizza
House-made Fior di Latte, Parmigiano Reggiano, arugula, prosciutto & truffle oil

This is seriously the BEST pizza I have ever had in my entire life.  I could have eaten the entire thing by myself, but I didn't.

We each ordered a glass of wine with our dinner - because why not?  I loved mine and Eric loved his, but we didn't write down the names. So, boo for us.  Maybe next time.

June 29th for breakfast we went to Magnolia Pancake Haus
http://www.magnoliapancakehaus.com/
We went to the "original" location on Embassy in San Antonio.
We got there early and they had a 30 minute wait.  They take your number and they text you when your table it ready and you can check your place in line from the text they send you.  So, we sat in our air-conditioned car until there were just 5 tables in front of us.  We showed up to the front door just as our phone went off that it was our turn.
We had seen the Triple D episode and knew we wanted to either try the Bacon Waffle or Bacon Pancake.
We decided on the following to share between just the two of us:

Bacon Waffle
AppleWood Smoked Thick-Cut Bacon
Just Biscuits (4 flaky biscuits with a side of Oma's sausage gravy)
Custom Recipe Whole Hog Sausage
Magnolia Browns
Corned Beef Hash

I had coffee and Eric had iced tea.

For review:
The Bacon Waffle was crispy and was the perfect mix between sweet and savory
The Bacon - seriously hands down the best bacon I have EVER eaten.  My husband is not a bacon fanatic like the rest of the world is and he raved about it.
Sausage - I'm not a fan of sausage and I did take a bite and let Eric have the rest.
Magnolia Browns - they were hash browns  - nothing out of the ordinary.  Not horrible, but nothing I would call spectacular.
Corned Beef Hash - why we got both regular hash browns and corned beef hash - I don't know.
The Corned Beef Hash was SO very rich.  We both had a few bites and had to box the rest up.  There is no way with the amount of salt and flavor that one person could eat that entire portion.

I save the best thing for last:
Biscuits and Gravy.  The biscuits were flaky and delicious. The gravy was hands down the star of the entire meal.  We both have gone on and on about the wonderful gravy and how we are ruined for life when it comes to sausage gravy.

After dinner and breakfast, we needed to detox badly.  But, it was so worth it.

It would amaze you to find out that I don't eat meat on a regular basis.  I actually haven't ever been a big fan of meat in general and try to be completely vegan most of the time.  As you can tell, I didn't even just go vegetarian for this trip.  I went hog wild - pun intended.
